I get a lot of questions regarding purchasing my prints and how that works. Here is a consolidated list of questions and answers that will hopefully get you the answers you need! I am always glad to answer any other quesitons you might have via email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
Q: Can I buy your photography?
A: Of course! I am in the process of adding photos to my portfolio and online store. If you see a photo from my trip reports or elsewhere that you would like to purchase that is not there, please send me an email and we can go from there!
Q: What payment do you accept?
A: At this time, I accept PayPal or personal check/money order. If you are paying via personal check or money order, please email me your order since it complicates the order process!
Q: How much do you charge for shipping?
A: As long as you are in the lower 48 States, shipping is included in the cost of the print.
Q: Can I use your photos for other purposes without buying a print?
A: It depends! Please contact me to discuss.
Q: How do you print your photos (especially the panoramic photos)?
A: I use a very reputable and trusted online vendor for all of my photography prints. I have been very satisfied with their product and I think you will too.
Q: What types of paper/medium are your prints available on?
A: I sell my prints in two formats: Premium Archival Matte Paper and Mounted Stretched Canvas.
Q: Tell me more about the Premium Archival Matte Paper and why you choose to print on that medium.
A: This is one of the best printing mediums on the market for several reasons:
- The colors are excellent.
- Blacks are excellent -- as black as the very dark blacks obtained with dye satin or dye glossy.
- The quality of black and white prints are perfect. All b/w grayshades are created from black and gray inks.
- There is very low reflectivity (little if any glare from direct lighting).
- Thickness: 21.5 mils -- very thick -- this is important for framing and durability.
- Estimated time for 1st detectable fading, indoors: 150 years!
- Graininess from ink drops: not visible!
- As a rule, the advantage of a matte surface is that it avoids glare from room lighting, at the expense of vividness of colors and deep blacks. This matte paper achieves both objectives!
- Prints on this paper look excellent, and room lighting should not be an issue.
Q: Can you tell me more about the awesome Mounted Stretched Canvas prints?
A: You bet! I think you will find that the quality of this print is superb. Additionally, if you are purchasing an odd-shaped print (panoramic), this may be a more affordable option! After dry-mounting, matting and framing, your print artwork may cost you considerably more than if you went with the straight mounted canvas.
I believe you will be very happy with my mounted canvas prints. Here's why:
- The vendor I use starts with a very high quality, thick, 21 mil poly-cotton blend canvas (Lexjet Sunset Matte Select). Its surface characteristics are unusually good, providing excellent color, deep dark blacks, sharp image detail, and a very flat reflectivity so as to avoid glare from lighting. Many online companies use thinner canvas or faux canvas. Also, other companies' products are glossy, making the canvas texture less apparent, and making it difficult to view the print except in ideal lighting conditions.
- All canvas prints are sprayed for protection. The spray they use is PremierArt ECO Print Shield, certified by Wilhelm Research. The spray helps to avoid cracking at edges, extends the already very long lifetime (about 150 years) before fading, and provides abrasion resistance, all without adding glossiness to the print.
- My vendor uses thick, sturdy 1.5" x 1.5" kiln dried stretcher bars. Their sturdiness helps to insure that the frame will not warp over time. And, the additional thickness makes the mounted prints look better when hung.
- The appearance of the sides is important. My vendor does not just assign the last 1.5" of your image for wrapping around the frame. They extend your print by 2.75" in each direction to add an appropriate border. And, they really know that mirror images (gallery wraps) for borders are ideal in some circumstances, but not good in others (e.g., if my signature appears upside down on the bottom edge, and mirror imaged on the lower right side). I give you eight choices for what will appear in the edge, wrap-around area. The back is also important. They attach a backing panel and hanger! How easy can this stuff be?!
- My vendor has a very fast turnaround. If you order by noon, central time, on a business day, your canvas print will usually be printed by 2-3 PM that same day. That gives them the time they need to make sure the ink is fully dry before they apply the first coat of spray. They apply three thin coats of spray, and each needs to dry completely. They ship on the 3rd business day after you order.
